Inkbook #2:
No progress since the last update, still stuck on nine pieces. I’ll try to squeeze in some once I’m further ahead with comics work.
Moon Jade Angel #2:
This one’s being set back a bit. Why? Because I have decided to separate the comics content basing it on a simple equation. People who want my comics in print will probably be unwilling to pay 6$ for a book that has 10-20 pages of comics, whereas people who buy these for the art pages alone won’t really care if the comics are gone. So the current amount of finished art is probably below 10 pages.
Coilstar Illustrated #1:
So far it’s a working title but it’ll probably stick. 52 pages of comics and nothing but comics, full color and priced 5.99$. Got at this point 34 pages ready and two more half-ready (a short comic that needs some edits). It’ll also reprint the 14 pages of comics from MJA #1 (which is part of those 24 pages) and contain every short color comic that I did up until this day. Well, every existing one that is. I can’t reprint work from my childhood or the 90s for a simple reason, those pages don’t exist anymore. Hoping to have this one finished for June.
Robyn Hood:
No change since the last update, except I’m pretty certain it’ll end up in Coilstar Illustrated #2 (if it’s finished in time for that).
“nanowrimo novel”:
Still in proofreading. Maybe I can have it out by the time next nano happens? Hopefully.
Amen City Chronicles:
Not really moving forward as I’m trying to build a large buffer for Carnivore Carnival first.
Carnivore Carnival:
Currently have a buffer of 12 pages (pages 3-14 of The Herb) and I’m trying to find the next story to work on.
Script Frenzy:
It appears this project is off, sadly. Unfortunately it’s too late to start this or the planned “Thumbnail Crazy” variant for I was way too busy working on The Herb.
other projects:
I’ve been toying with the idea of an improvised b&w heroic fantasy/action comic, but I have no idea whether I’ll start working on it soon or not. Also, other projects are bumping around my brain, making it difficult to focus on a single thing. We’ll see what comes out of this.
All right. As I’m writing this, both first two stories for Carnivore Carnival have finished their online serialization.
Planet Adam:
page 1, page 2, page 3, page 4, page 5, page 6
I’m still quite satisfied with this story. It came out pretty well as I have put a lot of energy into making it, more than basically any other of the tales you’ll see coming after it (with the exception of the Conception and Definition, but there I pretty much blew my wad on page 3, which took a full four days to finish) .
The interesting thing is that this one was written and drawn with an anthology book in mind. It was meant to hold 8 6-page tales from various Drunkduck creators, most of which had a larger “fanbase” than I did so I expected it to be a good exposure for my work. Thus the extra work. The sad fate of the book (pretty much no one managed to finish their stories other than me and one other guy who was in the “spare” lineup in case someone dropped out) kind of took away a lot of energy from me. Oh well…
Conception and Definition:
page 1, page 2, page 3, page 4, page 5, page 6
Interesting how these things turn out. This was originally meant to be 12 pages long and lead into a slightly different conclusion. See that pink train on the third page passing in the background? The salesman was meant to “sell” the same package, but also force you to choose male or female body. “Little Idea” was meant to choose the female package, but ended up getting lost in the “labyrinth of possibilities” on the way to the train station, where it would by mistake board the blue train (for boys) instead of the pink one. The last page was meant to mirror the second one, where the “starry umbilical cord” was meant to serve as the tunnel for the train.
In the end I have opted for a shorter, different version, one that reflects my outlook these days a little closer. Also, I have lost all the notes for hte original, except for the tiny set of page thumbnails, which allowed me to recreate at least this much of the tale that you see above.
Sadly, either the topic or the change in art style (this was made few years earlier) seems to have scared away a large chunk of my readership, making Carnivore Carnival drop from a spot in top 600 to pretty much out of top 1000. Oh well. I’ll get back up somehow.
Both tales listed above (and the following Until Death Do Us Part) are printed in Moon Jade Angel #1. The future tales (The Town at the End of the World and Making History) shall be printed in Moon Jade Angel #2, once I have enough material for that one (got about 10 pages so far, so 42 to go).
Since I might not be around to update this thing twice a week, here are the dates of ALL the planned updates (files are already on the server and waiting to go up on specified dates!) for Carnivore Carnival
March 1st: Conception and Definition page 3
March 4th: Conception and Definition page 4
March 8th: Conception and Definition page 5
March 11th: Conception and Definition page 6
March 15th: Until Death Do Us Part page 1
March 18th: Until Death Do Us Part page 2
March 22nd: The Town at the End of the World page 1
March 25th:The Town at the End of the World page 2
March 29th:The Town at the End of the World page 3
In other words, every Monday and Thursday, check this link!
Well, things sure aren’t going the way I planned them. So first, an announcement:
Starting tomorrow, I’ll be offline for a yet unspecified lenght of time. The reason behind it is simple: the electrical installation in our flat needs to be torn out entirely and replaced (or at least parts of it need to be), thus I’ll be without any electricity for at least a couple of days. Perhaps weeks. Hopefully below a month.
Well, what does that mean for Carnivore Carnival? There are still four pages of Conception and Definition in the buffer. After that, there’s a 2-page story Until Death Do Us Part, followed by a 3-pager, The Town at the End of the World. That means the webcomic will update without any interruptions (any possible drunkduck server related problems aside) until the end of March. Within that month I’ll try to get some heavy pencilling done, so that I can unveil some NEW stuff once I’m back online.
SO KEEP ON READING!
Today’s an update day again and page 2 of Conception and Definition is up under Carnivore Carnival!
For those just joining us, Carnivore Carnival is a webcomic consisting out of oneshots and short comics of various length. No connecting themes, other than they’re all in color and done solely by me.
The second Carnivore Carnival story has started. It’s somewhat different from the first one and also half of it was drawn over two years ago, but I’m sure you’ll enjoy it too.
Page six of Carnivore Carnival is up! This concludes Planet Adam, the first short story, so if you held off with the reading it might be a good time to start. If you don’t want 6th page spoilers, that story starts here.
Monday, second story will start, Conception and Definition. As a reminder, both stories are already available in print in the Moon Jade Angel #1 sketchbook/artbook/short comic collection.
It seems the server went up again so here it is, Carnivore Carnival page 4.
I’m a bit pissed that I lost about half a day of potential traffic. Oh well. Anyway, only two more pages until second story, Conception and Definition, starts.
